Here's a bit more info about CSTS Melbourne - less than a week to go, get your tickets now & avoid disappointment!
The screening is being held at the Kino Dendy Cinemas @ Collins Place, 45 Collins Street, Melbourne. The cinemas are on the lower level of the main foyer of the building. We will have a table set up in the foyer of the cinema from 2.30pm for collection of your tickets along with any pre-ordered merchandise. You can also purchase merchandise at the event - we have T-shirts, posters, mousemats, Fruity Oaty Bars and QMX Limited Edition Money Packs. There will also be a prize giveaway at the event - for each donation of $5 to Equality Now, you will receive 1 entry into the prize draw. We have heaps of very cool prizes to give away so bring your cashy money & don't miss out.
The Kino Dendy Cinemas have a special offer for parking which is also available for CSTS patrons. You can park at COLLINS PLACE carpark, Flinders Lane (enter via Spring St) and receive a discount with your ticket - the first 2 hours of parking is absolutely free, after which it is only $2 per hour (max 6 hours). Present your parking ticket at the box office to receive your discount.
In addition to raising funds for Equality Now, this year all the Australian and New Zealand CSTS screenings are having a "Browncoat Appeal" - an appeal for practical items to support our local community. If you can, please bring one (or more if you like) of the following:
* Non-perishable foods in tins / jars
* Warm winter clothing eg Jumpers / Jackets / "Browncoats", etc
* Blankets / Quilts
If you are donating clothes / blankets, please make sure they are either new or in good condition. This appeal is optional but all donations will be gratefully accepted. All donated items will be given to relief agencies on behalf of CSTS Melbourne. _________________ CSTS Melbourne @ www.cstsanz.com/melbourne

Phew, been so busy haven't been on for a while, really enjoyed CSTS Melbourne as my first event since moving to Melbourne.
Does anyone know how the funds are going from the Melbourne screening? and from the screenings around the country? I would hate to see the same thing happening here that happened with a number of last year's events around the world, would really tarnish any future charity screenings in the country and I definitely want more! _________________

As far as I know there were some...complications with the collected funds of two US charity events.
I'm not involved in any of the events this year, but from what I've been told a month seems like a decent amount of time to at least release a summary of how much money was raised at the event. It would be nice to know what greater fund I contributed to And I want to see if we've continued the growth of the event over the last few years! (I think donations increased from 2006 to 2007). _________________

I think that flake is referring to reports of missing funds from two of the 2007 CSTS events. There was a lot of discussion on it at Whedonesque.com:

According to cantstoptheserenity.com, so far the 2008 global tally is at US$52,878.77 - tallied from 21 cities whose donations have been confirmed by EN out of 42 cities with confirmed dates.
None of the Australia/New Zealand events have posted figures yet. |
